Maintenance and Cleaning of Outboard Engines


If we give detailed information about the maintenance and cleaning of outboard motors. Namely;

• The spark plugs must be removed and cleaned first. Besides, oil sprays are squeezed into the cylinders and lubrication is performed. The outside of the engine is wiped with suitable cleaners and this stage is completed.

• Antifreeze is circulated in water pumps and cooling systems of engines for winter. The cooling water circuit is checked and spare water is kept. Also, water strainer is checked and cleaned regularly.

• Bilge ventilation is checked and cleaned.

• Oil is drained by heating the engine and then oil filter and oil change are performed. The boat must have a spare oil filter.

• Engine decals are inspected and replaced if necessary.

• Control of transmission oils and transmission flow is ensured if necessary.

• The belts should be checked and replaced if necessary. Belt spray is used to remove abrasion and cracking.

• All these procedures should be recorded and the date, time, etc. should be noted.
