Maintenance and Cleaning of Outboard Engines

Maintenance and cleaning of outboard motors are as follows;

• First, the engines are cleaned with a suitable boat shampoo and a freshwater washing process is done. After washing, the water is drained and rinsed.

• Cylinder walls and pistons are lubricated with fogging and shaft and gears are lubricated with oil that has waterproof properties. The engine oil in the lower part of the engine must be changed before winter.

• Finally, the motor housing is cleaned with the outer casing of the motor and makes it look like new.

• One of the most important operations to be done before the season is to remove all the fuel from the carburetor by removing the fuel hose. The purpose of this is to eliminate the problems that cause evaporation in the fuel.

• Spark plug cables and spark plugs must be replaced every season. Also, curl and folding must be avoided.

• Check transmission oil and top up or replace it, if it is necessary.

• Clean and service the fuel tank.

• Lubricate all heated parts.
