Backup Methods

Backup Methods

Backup methods are generally used in adverse situations in the seas. In such cases, there are some important points to be made and to be checked. The main points to be considered;

• Whether anyone is at sea

• Boat location

• Direction and intensity of wind and current

• Best approach angle

• Whether there are any ropes or similar obstacles in the water

• Is there a reported problem with the vehicle?

• The general condition of the vehicle

• Can it achieve the adaptation and modification of the application, if necessary?

• Are there any necessary sub-equipment and personnel to carry out the necessary operations?

• How to allocate the task to the staff

• Questions such as what risks to the boat and the crew need to be quickly reviewed and planned.

Application:

• Rescuers are primarily rescued at sea.

• Excess people are evacuated from the vehicle to be towed.

• Backup marks are applied regardless of day or night.

• The other boat is informed of the implementation plan and opinions.

• The control center is notified of the mode of application and the start time.

Slingshot Usage

• Connections are made beautifully and one person is left to control the rope.

• At this stage, it is necessary to make sure that the rope is long enough and the angle is narrow.

• The process is performed by determining the appropriate pulling speed.

Honolulu Method

This method is applied only in good weather conditions and up to 8 meters. In this method, the vessel with superior maneuverability is connected shorter and towing is performed.

Y Method

This method is generally preferred for backing up large and heavy vehicles on wind and current. The method does not use a slingshot and one of the towing boats is used as authority.

Getting the person who fell from the boat

We finish the backup methods by talking about what to do when someone falls from the boat. In this case, the boat maneuver as necessary to take the person from the sea and continue the process.
