Das Boot is a movie shot in 1979 and released in 1981. It deals with the German U-Boot crew, who are included in the type 7 class U-96 in the Second World War. It is an epic war movie. Wolfgang Petersen was nominated for the best director award with this movie. It still holds the record with being nominated for the highest number of Academy Awards among German films. It is 216 minutes of film time. Jürgen Prochnow and Herbert Grönemeyr are movie actors. Klaus Doldinger made the soundtrack. He was nominated for eight film awards in total. 

Das Boot Movie Topic 

During the Second World War, a German submarine of the U- 96 type performs its usual patrol in the Atlantic ocean. There is staff on board. Also, one officer is on a mission to record what is going on in the submarine. As the ship continues its usual course, it encounters a fleet. There are five ships in this fleet without destroyer protection. The captain experiences short indecision. Then he orders an attack. At that moment, he sees that the destroyer they did not notice before attacking, attacked them. They plan to dive to the bottom and escape, but the destroyer does not follow.

The officer, who is in the submarine to record the events, sleeps thinking that they have no salvation. When he wakes up, he sees that everything is normal and the submarine gets rid of the destroyer. After this incident occurs, an order comes from the superiors at the headquarters to pass to La Spezia port in Italy. 

The Gibraltar Bosphorus is under control by British ships and aircraft. So for the U- 96 submarine, going through here is synonymous with suicide. Both the captain and his crew are aware of this.English troops notice U - 96 as they pass through the strait of Gibraltar. The captain tries to escape by accelerating. However, the submarine is hit and starts to sink. The ship that fell to the bottom received great damage. The ship, repaired with the efforts of the staff, gets rid of the bottom. They set off to return to their real base, La Rochelle. As soon as the welcoming ceremony begins, they are attacked by the British. When the attack ends, the majority of the crew of the U-96 submarine died. At the end of the movie Das Boot, the captain of the ship sees his ship for the last time as it sinks. Then the captain loses his life.
