According to some, this tragic accident was a kind of divine justice manifestation due to the injustice of the famous explorer, Christopher Columbus. After this accident, Columbus was accused of storming it by casting a spell. If we tell the detail of the story. In 1502, the fleet of 31 caravans, including the El Dorado ship, gathered in Santo Domingo for preparations to take the treasures of the new world to Spain. When the ship was caught in the storm and the governor was having his last moments, it is unknown whether he thought he was dismissing Christopher Columbus's warning or thought it was the curse of Christopher Columbus, but after this accident, there were rumors that Columbus had sunk the ships by casting magic.

Sinking and shattering ships had tons of pearls and gold nuggets, and the ships carried an unimaginable treasure. When the storm broke, some of the treasure had reached the shore, but most of the gold was in dust and ingot. Merchant Royal was the ship where the most valuable treasure sank throughout the history of maritime. The ship, which was caught in a storm off the coast of Britain on September 23, 1641, was carrying a highly loaded treasure. To express the size of the treasure it carries, we can say that; The treasure on board was equal to 1/3 of the state treasury at that time. This ship was specially built in 1627 by British merchants. Also, the evacuation pumps of the ship broke down and sink as a result of the storm that was caught on 23 September 1642. 18 of 58 crew members on board were killed by drowning in the accident.

The captain and with him 40 men board the lifeboats and are rescued by the accompanying Dover Merchant ship. Unfortunately, it was not possible to save the sinking treasure with the ship. News of the accident reached London in a short time and this situation had a great impact throughout Europe. For a long time, this news appeared in the press and did not come off the headlines.

This ship, known as the El Dorados of the Seas, sinks in; It carried 500,000 silver Spanish pesos, 400 gold Mexican silver, and 500 gold Spanish gold. Besides, there were 300,000 silver and 100,000 gold and jewels belonging to the merchants of the period in the warehouse of the ship.
